One of the traditional rice varieties which is grown organically in the Malnad region.
The red rice gets rich color from an antioxidant called anthocyanic. Studies show that, compared to white rice, the ability to reduce body weight is more in red rice because of its higher protein content. It is rich in antioxidants, phyto-nutrients, having good iron content and helps in improving hemoglobin count in blood. It has the potential to lower the increased cholesterol levels in blood and thus prevent heart disease. Red rice is good for diabetes as it can lower blood sugar levels.
To cook red rice, more water is better because they’re not as refined as white rice. 1:4 is also good as the rice gets more fluffy. It usually takes a lot of time to cook compared to others.
